Robin Hood (***)

Robin Hood film poster

Another film about Robin Hood, but it takes a bit a of different view of history. Russel Crowe is Robin and does a good job. The film was quite long but I did not find myself looking at my watch. Some great battle scenes and plenty of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seats.

Cassandra’s Dream ***

Cassandra's Dream movie poster

Two London brothers are hard-up for cash, and both have girls to keep happy. When rich Uncle Howard comes to town and makes them a devilish offer, he says that they’re family, and since he always takes care of them, the least they could do is help him out this once, as they’re the only ones he can trust. The film follows their struggle with the immorality of this request and how each brother chooses to deal with it.
Excellent cast, good film, a bit weak in parts.

Berko along the canal and back via the hills

Went for a bike ride today, headed off to the Butterfly reserve on Watery lane then onto the resvervoirs via the tow path, through Tring and onto Berkhamsted. Quick ice cream then up the steep hill out of the town, and in to the chiltern hills past Cholesbury and then down via Wendover woods back into Aston Clinton. Her us a map.

Lost productivity

Pacman

How many hours were lost today in offices around the world. The google home page had a pacman game to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the video game. If you want to try it go to the google home page, but remember it is only for today.

Duck on eggs

We have a duck (Mallard) hiding in a flower bed at work and she sat on eggs, to day I took a peek and saw her turn the eggs and reposition them.

I first found out about a week ago early one morning when Basil, called me over and pointed to the edge of the flower bed. I thought he had spotted some rare plant or something, but we I looked through the foliage I could make out he brown/black pattern of a mallard. The mother is very trusting if you keep a few metres back and look into the bed she just opens one eye but does not raise her head which is usually tucked into here body as ducks do.

I am looking forward to the day when the the duckings emerge from the nest. I will keep you posted hopefully with some pictures.

Somers Town (****)

Somers Town film poster

Marek  a polish immigrant, living with his father, and Tomo (run away from home in Nottingham) strike  an unlikely friendship, in Somers Town north London. They spend their day around the local neighbourhood, and take a fancy to a French waitress in a local Cafe. There is a local “Dell Boy” who they help out to earn money.

The film is brilliantly filmed in black and white, has a great sound track and both sad and funny moments, all you could want from a film really.

Google TV

Listened to the latest episode of TWIG and Gina Trapani suggested that at Google I/O the big announcement might be for an Android based set top box or a build of Android for that purpose. Now that would be a great thing, imagine access to Android apps on your TV.

Son of Rambow (****)

Son of Rambow film poster

SON OF RAMBOW is the name of the home movie made by two little boys with a big video camera and even bigger ambitions. Set on a long English summer in the early 80’s, SON OF RAMBOW is a comedy about friendship, faith and the tough business of growing up.  Filmed around Berkhamsted so some familiar places, including the Rex.  A good film.
