EasyJet late then on time

Arrived at Belfast International and all looked good, then an announcement suggested a 45 minute delay. Next thing you know we are called to gate 14. Not sure if Google latitude works in the UK although I got it working I think its is because my Blackberry is attached to a server in Dublin, then when I surf the internet that is too. Did not see any of the 000’s of Waxwings being reported.

No work at the dump

It is very cold this morning. The roads around the estate are very icy, but when you get to the main roads they are generally clear. It was a bit tricky slowing down to get off the A41. Picture shows there is no work going on at the Aston Clinton dump.

Snow again

buckland-in-the-snow

The worst since 1991 according to the BBC. A41 is partially covered and we are expecting more later on. I decided to walk to work it took about 45 minutes I went the back way down through Buckland. Might try it again it again, a nice way to start the day. Saw three Bullfinches.

SQL query tips

When running a SQL query it is always a good idea to start working on them by using “SELECT TOP 100” it saves you waiting while SQL returns a large dataset. When you are ready to run the query for real you can just add the word PERCENT i.e. “SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT”

Bridleway resurface

digger-bridelway

They have decided to resurface the bridleway that runs along the perimeter fence at work. I am not sure why as you see about 1 person a week using it. Still in a credit crunch public projects keep us all in work.

Luton Ferrari

They are raffling off a Ferrari at Luton airport. I wonder what the chances of winning are? Off to Gilford Road with Shirley and Vanessa.

Delayed at Luton

luton-airport-flight-display

Due to go to Northern Ireland today, but the plane is delayed, by 35 minutes, hence the blog entry! Tried to download windows v7 recently but despite all the hype the servers are not responding. Found an interesting idea from Microsoft, “Tags”, which are essentially colour bar codes. The colour allows more bits to be packed in. They provide examples for you to create could be used to identify products. It also never crossed my mind before you could ask someone to email in a photo of a product label which could be used to log a warranty call. Obviously this would work with any type of bar code.

A winters walk

Frosted trees

Went for a walk with Helen up around St Leonards and The Lee. Saw a mixed flock with Yellowhammer, Bullfinch and a Common Buzzard. It was very cold, but well worth the effort to see the winter spectacle. There were no muddy paths just uneven ground because the mud was like concrete.

PS Saw a Green Woodpecker from the window at work on Friday (4 YTD 51).

Coke to clean your loo

Coke Can Clean Your Toilet in a Pinch

from Lifehacker by Gina Trapani

When your toilet’s got rings and lime scale stains and you’ve got no cleaning gear on hand, grab a can of Coke out of the fridge.

According to wikiHow, you can pour Coke into a dirty toilet and the carbonic, citric, and phosphoric acids in it will break down stains, especially if you can leave it overnight to do the work. (Soda water will work too, without all the sugary residue.) Be warned though: this technique won’t save you from the dreaded brushing of the bowl itself.

It’s snowing

car-balanced-on-crash-barrier

First day back at work and it is snowing. Car tracks running up the curb all over the estate.

One car on the bypass had mounted the central barrier and was balanced on top. Two people at work put thier cars in the ditch.

A great day to start back to work.
